Animated Graphics Consider some of the major websites, such as news or file download sites. How many animated graphics appear on the site? If you think really hard, you'll realize that the only animated graphics found on most would be the advertisements. What am I trying to say? Animated GIFs, for the most part, suck. There is nothing more gaudy than a big web page full of animated graphics. For one, they take a very long time to load - much longer than a standard graphic. They also distract the user from the content in the page, which is not good. Finally, they can make the page or computer run slower because the system constantly has to process each frame of the animation. Now, some animation is acceptable, so long as it is useful and not distracting. A nice subtle animation can make a page look quite nice, while one of those huge strobe light graphics can make the page look very childish.
